asian community staying vigilant

Established in 1986, The Asian Chamber of Commerce (ACC), formerly known as the Pacific and Asian Chamber of Commerce of Nevada was formed to serve and represent the professional and business interests of Nevada’s growing Asian Pacific Americans. ACC, a non-profit corporation, was founded with the primary goal of economic growth for its membership. Our goal is to become a major forum and significant economic force in bringing about political, social, and economic party for Nevada’s Asian Pacific American community. The ACC is a conduit of business opportunities and a broker of information and resources for Asian-Pacific American entrepreneurs. Membership is open to any business or individual subscribing to our goals and objectives.

1. How long have you been a member of the Asian Chamber of Commerce?
I started attending luncheons in 2019 as the President of the Asian MBA club @ UNLV, bringing along fellow students and Alumni to network with the community. Then 2020 rolled around and everything became a virtual format, I attended a few of those meetings. After graduating this past spring and starting my business I upgraded my student membership to professional. Looking forward to the next step!

2. Why did you join the Asian Chamber of Commerce? Any expectations?
As a student approaching graduation I joined to network and find potential jobs in the community. After talking to many leaders and professionals in the community, I built up the courage to start my own small business and serve those who I’ve met at various events. Oh! Not to mention the speakers really add a level of knowledge that is hard to find in the classroom. I plan to attend and learn as much as I can.

3. What committee do you currently volunteer with?
None yet, though I will coordinate with Melissa or Yoko to find opportunities.

4. What is your current occupation?
I am a commercial drone pilot.

5. What do you do at [Company] and what circumstances would I come to you for something?

We provide aerial imaging services which can range anywhere from a basic residential / commercial real estate photo package to surveying 50 miles of road for an upcoming infrastructure project.

The current contract we are servicing is inspecting several MGM properties with drones. We can get permission from the FAA to fly just about anywhere in the Las Vegas Valley.

If you require a special sensor like LIDAR, Thermal/IR, multispectral, or just plain RGB for photogrammetry we have you covered.

Additionally, we were part of the initial crew for the Walmart Drone delivery Program that started last year that was so successful the primary contractor secured seed money to pursue further operations in Bentonville, AK(Walmart’s HQ)

6. What lead you to this career?
Summer 2019 I went on a trip to China with my MBA cohort, where we visited Hong Kong which is the home to the biggest drone manufacturer in the world (DJI). I decided to purchase a drone to document my travel in Beijing and Shanghai which ended up being a blast.

Being an MBA student, I put my thinking cap on and said, “How can I turn this into a business?” I applied my knowledge on market research and found that the verticals I could service in the Valley could be Real Estate, Videography, Construction, & Building Inspections.

It certainly has been a challenge building a business in a niche market, (in the middle of a pandemic no less!) but the adventure has been more than worth it.

7. What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
The fact that I served a religious mission in Tokyo for two years and that I can speak Japanese. Also, when I had the chance to return to Tokyo to visit old friends, I survived eating pufferfish (Fugu in Japanese) … 3 times! Haha.

8. What is your favorite sport to watch, and which team do you root for?

I love baseball and have been rooting for STL Cardinals since the Mark McGwire days.

9. What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Going hiking with the wife and doggos or out on a day trip to CA/UT/AZ.

10. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be? Why?
Well the drones take care of the flying thing for me.. I guess it would be omnifabrication, or the ability to create an invention with little to no thought. This would be particularly useful in my office when designing tech setups for my clients.

11. What is your favorite place to eat around here?
Bella Vita just opened down the street from my house, that is really good Italian!

12. What is your favorite Asian Restaurant in Las Vegas?
The place my wife and I celebrate accomplishments is at the Chubby Cattle, which is a hotpot location off of Jones and Spring Mtn. We thoroughly enjoy Kura Sushi in Shanghai Plaza & recently fell in love with Oodle Noddle (udon shop) near the Raku on Flamingo.

13. What is your favorite TV show or movie?
I’m a big fan of sci-fi stuff. Anything with space and technology!
